Walk north....(or four stations in one day)

I've got to go north today...but not so far that I can't walk it, just gotta get into my stride...

Time to leave the Southbank behind...

Not such a good view east into the morning sun from Waterloo bridge...

A much better view west over Hungerford bridge and into Westminster...

The streets get pretty crowded as soon as I get over to the north side of the river...

So I'll just follow the trail of buses north round Aldwych and up Kingsway...

The range of architectural styles never ceases to amaze me...

though some folk clearly see them as painting canvases...

It gets distinctly more gothic the further north I get...

Thistle, Bloomsbury park hotel.
And then it just surprises you with something like this...

http://www.cryptgallery.org.uk/

Which appears to have some raptor dentures on the lawn...

Anyway back to the architecture appreciation...

I need to turn right here... (that's Euston under the tower block by the way)

Walk along past this chap...

Just a little bit further...

Here we are... they just don't build stations like this anymore....

St. Pancras

Its hard to believe that behind all these intricate carvings of dragons there are intercity trains...

But there are... look...

It's a lot more inspiring than its next door neighbour...

King's cross

Anyway after a very long and slightly tedious meeting it was time to go home...so I decided to take the more scenic route.  I love this about London-  one road off to the side of the main route and you find some quirky alleys...

or shady parks...

and its not long till I'm back into ooohing and aaahing over interesting architecture again...

The View west isn't so good in the afternoon...

but the view east is much clearer...

Thank fully there's a big mosaic sign to stop me getting too distracted....

and in no time at all.....I'm back where I started...

Rail stations and raptors....

Shhh! don't tell anyone - but I'm a bit of a dino geek at heart.

They were fab, they were in charge and then they weren't.  It makes for great drama.... and a great blockbuster movie or two now....

To promote the movie opening in the UK, the promoters took over Waterloo station...  can you see what they did?

Apparently you can catch a tube to Jurassic World...

Which is just as well as these girls have just escaped from a crate in the middle of the concourse...

Its just too tempting....

I'm going in for a closer look...

Great fun!

Apparently there are Pterodactyls in the tunnels but I've not got time to go and find them.  What a shame I've gotta set off walking for a conference somewhere north of here...

Owls - two ways

There's a bit if a fashion thing going on with owls at the moment.  They seem to be the "in" critter appearing on all sorts of home furnishings, fashionable stationery and T shirts.  So as a thing to make that might sell in a charity fund raiser it seems like a it of a no -brainer to have a go at making a few...

Firstly crochet keyring ones, from this pattern by Bunny Mummy

Crochet circles....

gain small crochet circles for eyes...

Get sewn together and a key ring added...

and then because they are great fun, and really quite simple I keep going....

And before you can say "too whit too whoooo" there's a whole parliament of owls....

Meanwhile, not to be out done, Region 2of the Quilter guild have organised a fund raising
Tomb-owl-a.  for which a pattern of an owl pin cushion came out in the regional magazine - Twos company...

Two rounded triangles of fabric sewn together to make a cone...

a fabric covered cardboard disc for a base to make the owl stand up straight...

A bit of  stuffing and the point of the cone folded forwards to make the beak....

two button eyes and hey presto....

A second parliament of owls is ready for  action!
