10 little balls of happiness.....

Here they are....

All rolled up and waiting for action....

On your marks.....get set.... GO!

Round one  - a ring of trebles...

Round two a bit of a dimple to start the petals....

Round three...proper petals

And joining to friends.....

5 done
And errrr 65 to go....

A concerted evening and morning of hooky and things are coming together quite nicely....

but I think I'd better tidy things up as I go along...

There that's better!

If I keep on like this I might have a new scarf by Christmas!

Nature on the doorstep

I had to go along to the apiary this afternoon for the AGM, I've been asked to be on the committee for next year, so it would have been a bit rude not to go...

After a busy morning of crochet, chit and chat I set out to walk to the Apiary.
It struck me that with the nights drawing in and the weather getting wetter and colder the opportunities to get out and about are going to become more scarce for the next few months...so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to walk there along the bank of the Hogsmill....

I'm glad I did.  These photos in no way do it justice. But in the cold and slightly failing light the autumn colours zinged and pinged...

I walked VERY fast through the railway tunnel and tried not to think about the spiders (and bats) nesting on the ceiling....

Phew! back out into the open....

Rather surprised to find the weirs have been removed!

But a helpful sign explains its part of a plan to improve the brook by removing the obstacles that prevent fish swimming up stream, and so gradually improve the ecological balance.

Time to head for home now...I feel a cuppa coming on.

New hooky project

This is another treat from the Yarndale shopping bag for me ....

Hang on.....let me line them all up together ...

Aren't these little skeins scrummy??
They come from Amanda Perkins of the Natural dye Studio.
She had a stand right in the middle of Yarndale and I was, quite frankly, blown away by the colours and the blankets...and the scarves...and the wraps...and the shawls...do you get the picture?

I just had to try a little something and this kit to make a Lula crochet scarf hit the spot perfectly..

First a bit of technical adjustment:
Am I a tight tension or a lose tension hooker? (oooh err missus!)

I made the motif (as per the brilliantly clearly instructions) with two different size hooks.
Who knew 1/2 mm could make so much difference...

So now they need blocking.....simply soak in luke warm water for 15 mins and squeeze out as much water as possible in a towel...

Then pin out to dry.
In my case on a template of a 2.5" circle to make sure they don't overstretch to get to the right size...

Now the hard part....
Which one looks the best?
.....mmmmmm....... might have to be the yellow edged one...

Now to crack on ...it needs 69 friends to join it as soon as possible....There's a forecast of snow for next week!!

Confounding the weather....

It really is autumn now....

Everywhere I look in the garden the leaves are turning....

The bees only fly when the temperature sneaks above 11'c.....which it takes a while to do in the dappled sunshine....

There are a few flowers still striving to add a bit of colour here and there....

They keep the place looking jolly....

The Weather has confounded  this climber into flowering much longer than it really should (and I really should learn its name) ...

If I just step back a moment you'll see what I really mean...

Aaah..... now that's not so much prolific as completely encroaching on next door.  Best get to tidying that up....errr there's rather a lot once you get started cutting it back...

Hmmmm. .....thats the third batch going through the shredder.....

Will there be anything left?

Ah.... thats better neat and tidy at last.
Right I think I've earned a cuppa and a bacon sandwich (and an afternoon of crochet in front of the telly!)

Quick! its getting cold out there!!

Remember Yarndale?
I certainly remember my shopping bag....

Half term seemed like the perfect opportunity to get on with a project.  After all a storm was going to keep me housebound for at least one day, and the weather after the storm is only going to get colder.

Time for a scarf I think.....

With this really lovely Silk and seaweed mix yarn - its the one on the top left of the picture above...

Time to borrow the furniture in our holiday hideaway house to prepare the hank...

Winding the hank into a proper ball is supposed to stop it getting knotted and tangled....mmmmmmmm.   might need to practice that a bit more.....

Finally 'tis done! and I'm ready to hook.

Thanks to Ravelry I have a pattern for a cowl, which has got to better than a scarf I think!, and a plan....so off I hook .....

Amazingly quickly in fact... So quickly in fact that there are no progress pictures... just this ....

..and as you can see the ball of wool on the sofa is significantly reduced!!!

I think my neck is going to be significantly warmer  - Just in time -There is a forecast for snow next week!!!!!
