2014: Resolving to finish....

Mmmm New Year resolutions:  a promise to oneself to perform an act of self improvement.

What should mine be for 2014?

Quite simply I have far too many unfinished projects, they're cluttering the place up,  getting in the way of starting new stuff.  So this year I'm determined to make a plan to get as many of them finished as possible.  That way there'll be more space for more projects next year!

So what is there lurking in the cupboard?

Firstly there's the quilts....

This sun flower one only needs some lose ends sewing in and the tacking taken out....

This Halloween stars needs the full quilting treatment and binding....

As does this multicoloured stars one....I'd forgotten how colourful this one is...most of the "plain" fabrics are self dyed ones...

Then there's the two Jennie Rayment wall hangings from workshops some time ago....

They only need a bit of embellishing, quilting and binding....I've bought the buttons for one ... and some fancy yarn for the other one....

More workshop UFOs ( Unfinished Objects)...

This from a day with Shirley Bloomfield...

and this from last year's weekend away .....

Then there's the quilting projects I haven't got round to starting yet....

There's the lily chenille bag...

The Japanese wall hangings....

The silk miniature hexagons....

The Jelly roll....(bought in a moment of madness, I had resisted the trend for so long and then capitulated at the sight of chocolate brown)...

There's a treasure trove of patterns and kits gained as presents from friends....

Friends - who even gave me written instructions, a sample of a made up one and the where with all to make a good few of my own ......

That's nearly trumped by the number of mini projects, started at shows and exhibitions (Yes that is a gold work bee, currently with only one wing...maybe it'll fly if it gets another.....)

And most bewildering ... this miniature which only appears to need 4 further seams to complete it!
How long can 4 seams take for heavens sake?
(Note to self: don't ask rhetorical questions there are more embarrassments to come....)

Amazingly there is only one hooky project - although it does come in three smaller pieces...

I'm not sure quite why I need a ram door stopper...but it seemed like a good idea when it threw itself at me at that quilt show.....

There's a fairly diverse collection of kits that came from magazine covers....

I've got quite a collection of Sue Hawkins needlework kits...
If I was embarrassed at not completing 4 seams, then I'm mortified that this pin cushion has remained unfinished for over a year for the lack of a button....particularly when the button is made and waiting attached to its own length of thread....

This paperweight vegetable garden needs more than a button.....

And I'd better not start either of these till their predecessors are done....

A friend, who is relatively new to quilting, asked me recently how long its OK to leave a UFO unfinished for.  I find I have no answer for that...this project got off to a great start...all the pieces sorted, labelled and organised into individual sandwich bags ...

Its only when you spot the date on the receipt for the threads I'd planned to use to quilt it that I realise just how long this UFO has been unfinished for.....

So that's a nice round 40 unfinished or unstarted projects for me to exercise my self improvement on....For now I shall have to simply

and give thanks that...
